Course Overview

Overview: Working with children is a rewarding and engaging career. If you are already working in an early years environment, whether employed or in a voluntary position, and are looking for a way to get even better at caring for young people as well as keeping up-to-date with all policy developments, then the Foundation Degree Young Children’s Learning and Development is the course for you.The course will help you take your childcare skills to the next level. Learning about both key management skills and child development, you’ll turn the theory you learn into hands-on practice. We support you to find placements you placements as a preferred supplier for many daycare providers in Hull. We also ensure you have a a Workplace Mentor to ensure you get the support you need to succeed.If you are looking for ways to accelerate your career prospects in childcare management or thinking about running your own nursery and want a course that is flexible, apply for your place on the Foundation Degree Young Children’s Learning and Development. The course is offered part time over three years and is suitable for those students working in an early years environment who wish to develop their knowledge and skills alongisde their employment. Entry Requirements: A suitable L3 qualification, GCSE (or equivalent) English, voluntary or employed placement and a satisfactory DBS. The IELTS Score for all entrants is 6.5 Level 4 Modules: Play Based Learning (20 credits) Professional Practice: Academic Skills (20 credits) Child Development (20 credits) Observation & Physical Well-Being in the Early Years (20 credits) Collaborative Practice (20 credits) Supporting Children with Special Needs (20 credits) Level 5 Modules Professional Practice: Research (20 credits) Implementing Research (20 credits) Early Years Practitioner (20 credits) Enterprise and Employability (20 credits) Leadership and Management (20 credits) Teaching and learning will consist of taught sessions, workshops, seminars, workplace visits and tutorials. In addition to this, each student will be expected to undertake a considerable amount of self-directed study. Students will be assessed in a variety of ways including essays, workplace visits, observations, portfolios, progress files, presentations and reflective accounts. Assessment: Takes on a variety of formats such as poster presentations, written assessments, presentations and observations. Fees: £5000 per each year of study, the programme is delivered over three years. Validating Partner: This programme is approved by Hull College Group Contact Hours: The PT programme is six hours of contact time per week, you are also expected to complete self-directed study on a weekly basis to extend your subject knowledge.
