The 16 to 19 Bursary fund provides financial support to help learners overcome specific financial barriers to participation so they can remain in education.
There are two types of bursary available, discretionary or vulnerable. To qualify for discretionary bursary, your household income must be £27,000 or below.
The discretionary bursary can help with travel, meals, essential kit/equipment and essential trips. Depending on your individual circumstances, you will receive free school meals or meal allowance.
If you are deemed vulnerable, you can receive up to £1,200. This will be split and paid weekly over the course of the academic year. To see if you are eligible to apply for the vulnerable bursary, please see the list of requirements below:
If you require childcare to enable you to study with us, the Care to Learn scheme can help with the costs. Full details can be found by visiting www.gov.uk/care-to-learn.
Attendance of 95% and above together with good behaviour must be maintained to continue being eligible for the bursary.
To apply, please complete the bursary application form and return together with all the required supporting evidence which is listed on the form (please note these must be dated within the last three months).
If you require further advice and guidance in regard to bursaries, please email studentfinance@hull-college.ac.uk .
The bursary is available to students aged 19+ who are enrolled on further education courses, either full-time or part-time, with a household income of £27,000 and under. Funding is not available for students on apprenticeships, higher education or full-cost courses where other funding rules may apply. You must also meet the residency criteria.
If you are eligible, you can receive financial support to help pay towards course-related costs such as essential equipment/kits and books, essential trips, travel (full-time learners only) and childcare. You may also be entitled to a fortnightly payment directly into your bank account. Those who enrol onto a part-time course would be entitled to payment of £1 per guided learning hour, which is paid termly.
If approved, and you have applied for the childcare element, we will pay up to £38 a day to our Nursery or Ofsted registered childcare provider if we cannot accommodate your timetable. Please note, if you are aged 19 as of the 31st August 2020, you will need to apply to the Care to Learn scheme for childcare support. Full details can be found by visiting www.gov.uk/care-to-learn.
Attendance of 85% and above must be maintained to continue being eligible for the bursary.
