Course Overview
Foundation Art & Design (FAD) will offer you the opportunity to develop your skills in a range of specialisms and is aimed at students who have an A-Level in an art based subject but need to expand their studies in order to progress to an Art or Design degree.
FAD will support you in developing an open-minded working practice that will give you a variety of approaches to creative problem solving and prepare you for the creative world with a full range of exploratory modules covering many disciplines to give you a broad understanding of the arts.
FAD is split into 3 stages:
In the first stage you will explore creative practice through a range of rotational projects in Fine Art, Three-dimensional Design, Fashion and Textiles, Photography, Ceramics and Graphic Visual Communication.
In the second stage you will specialise in your chosen pathway and undertake practical development of key skills needed for your chosen industry. These will also build upon the techniques and skills introduced in stage one and integrate these through further exploration and problem solving activities.
In the third stage you will undergo a final project that culminates in a final year exhibition. This final project is the only piece of work to be graded and this grade will reflect your entire year’s work.
You can go on to study a range of degree courses at Hull College including 3D design, fine art, illustration, curation, professional practice, film and TV, or teaching art and design yourself.
