Course Overview

Overview: The fashion & textile industries are an exciting and vibrant area in which to pursue your future career. Our FD in Fashion and Textiles is a 360 creative examination giving you the fundamentals to develop your own identity as an emerging practitioner. Based in an open studio environment the course offers you the freedom to explore the subjects through handcrafted, traditional and contemporary digital based technology. You will develop personal responses through a variation of innovative design led projects. The first year of the programme is designed to underpin all the vital skills a fashion & textiles practitioner needs to develop an autonomous and proactive approach to their studies. The second year of the programme is about cultivating interests and personally developing skills. The programme allows students to build their professional portfolio and prepare them for higher level study and employment. Entry Requirements: Is 64 UCAS points, and we will also consider applications from mature students with industry experience or other accredited prior learning (APL). Our HE IELTS score entry requirements are 6.5 UCAS CODE: FTD1 Modules Year 1: Fashion & Textiles: Theories & Perspectives (20 credits) Experimental Processes & Material (20 credits) Visual & Digital Media (20 credits) Figure, Fit & Form (20 credits) Print & Construction (20 credits) Self-initiated Project (20 credits) Year 2: Fashion & Textiles: Contextualising & Theorising Practice (20 credits) Processes & Material 2 (20 credits) Research for Self-initiated Project (20 credits) Creative Realisation of Self-initiated Project (20 credits) Soft Tailoring (20 credits) Experimental Surface Pattern (20 credits) Assessment: We will always assess students through a variety of methods and learning styles, this includes assessments such as written submissions, creation of garments, portfolio-based practice and presentations. Fees: £7500 per year/level of study This programme is approved by Hull College Group Contact Hours: Timetabled sessions will be ten hours a week, there will be expected self-directed study and an additional commitment to workshop/studio practice which will equate to a total of 15 hours per week.
