Course Overview

Overview: On the BA (Hons) Criminology (Top-up) you’ll study crime committed by both the powerful and powerless, looking at individual responsibility and consequences in relation to gender, ethnicity and crime. The course is industry recognised, continuously refreshed to reflect the current criminal justice landscape. Students work at the cutting edge of Criminology, understanding the cause and nature of crime.You’ll study the latest theories and strategies in contemporary criminology, examining current trends such as the rise in cyber crime and extremist terrorism, with a range of modules looking at violence, sexual and child exploitation and victimology.The course is a career enhancing opportunity for anyone wanting to work in policing, the legal profession, or supporting victims and offenders, with practical experience taught alongside research and academic skills. You will be equipped to work with vulnerable children and adults such as those struggling with homelessness, refugees and others. Entry Requirements: A suitable L5 qualification is needed for entry onto the programme, such as a HND or Foundation Degree in a relevant subject. Our HE IELTS score entry requirements are 6.5 UCAS CODE: L311 Modules Dissertation (40 credits) Contemporary Criminological Theory (20 credits) Minority Groups and Crime (20 credits) Victimisation and Victimology (20 credits) 21st Century Crime: New Threats New Strategies (20 credits) Assessment: We will always assess students through a variety of methods and learning styles, this includes assessments such as policy reviews, written submissions, portfolio-based practice and presentations. Fees: £7500 per year/level of study Validating Partner: This programme is validated in partnership with the University of Hull Contact Hours: Timetabled sessions will be nine hours a week, there will be expected self-directed study and an additional commitment to scholarship practice which will equate to a total of 15 hours per week.
